De Synology DiskStation DS212 is een betaalbare en veelzijdige 2 bay NAS server met RAID-ondersteuning, ontworpen voor zowel de zakelijke gebruiker als de prive gebruiker.

Voor de zakelijke gebruiker is de DS212 geschikt voor speciale functies en toepassingen als onder andere de geïntegreerde mailserver, USB-printermogelijkheden, VPN-server en Synology Web Station.

Voor het thuis gebruik heeft de DS212 functies als de Cloud Station, verschillende back-up toepassingen, Audio-, Photo- en Download Station.

De DS211 beschikt over een 1.6 GHz processor en 256MB RAM en biedt ruimte aan 2 harde schijven die in Synology Hybrid RAID, Basic, RAID0, RAID1 of JBOD geschakeld zijn. Op de server draait DiskStation Manager (DSM) met vele applicaties zoals: Files station, Audio station, Photo station, Web station en Mail station. Ook onderweg kan er gebruikt gemaakt worden van de server door middel van de beschikbare smartphone apps voor onder andere bestanden, foto's, muziek en beveiligingscamera's.

Synology DS212 offers a centralized backup target to consolidate fragmented and unstructured data across a network. PC users can back up their data to Synology DS212 using Synology Data Replicator software, and Mac OS X users enjoy native Apple® Time Machine integration.

A backup wizard is provided for backing up data in Synology DS212 to another Synology DiskStation, to other rsync server, or to an external drive. Making backup to Amazon® S3 cloud service is supported. The add-on package, Time Backup, keeps DiskStation data in multiple versions, so IT administrators could easily keep track of them and restore to previous version whenever required.

USBCopy and SDCopy provide a plug-n-save solution to store data. With just one touch on the «Copy» button in the front panel, it quickly backs up all data on an USB storage device or SD card to the pre-defined shared folder on the DiskStation.
