De Synology DiskStation DS411 Slim is het kleinere broertje van de DS410 en DS411+II, kleiner vooral in afmetingen. Deze NAS Server is door het gebruik van 2,5" harde schijven (ipv 3,5" harde schijven) erg compact. De server is qua performance niet klein, met zijn 1.66 GHz CPU en 256MB RAM en tal van functies (FTP server, Webdav server, Webserver, Mediaserver, Photo website etc) is deze NAS Server zeer geschikt voor thuis gebruik en kleine bedrijven. De DS411 Slim biedt ruimte aan 4 harde schijven van het type 2,5" SATA. De schijven die hierboven zijn geselecteerd zijn werken goed samen met deze NAS.

The Synology DS411slim is designed to work with 2.5” hard drives. The low power consumption characteristic of 2.5” hard drives will lower your electricity bill, as well as reduce your carbon footprint. In addition, 2.5” hard drives have reduced vibration, increased MTBF (mean time before failure), and shock tolerance. It not only extends hard drive’s lifespan, but also provides better reliability. The smart fan design keeps the DS411slim’s fan off under normal operations and spinning up at a very low speed only when needed, thus minimizing the noise level.
Flexible RAID Management
The Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) automatically builds an optimal RAID volume with data protection based on the hard drives installed, eliminating the need to have hard drives of identical size, while still offering a manual setup option for advanced users.
Cross Platform File Sharing & Backup
Synology DiskStation is designed for data storage and sharing among Windows, Mac, and Linux. Seamless file sharing across different operation systems is an effortless process. Internet file access is simplified by the encrypted FTP server, the web-based File Browser and File Station. HTTPS, firewall, and IP auto-block support ensure file sharing over the Internet is protected at a high security level.
The Synology DS411slim offers a centralized backup target to consolidate fragmented and unstructured data across a network. PC Users can back up their data to the Synology DS411slim using the free Synology Data Replicator software, while Mac OS X users enjoy native Apple® Time Machine integration.
A web-based backup wizard is provided for backing up data in the Synology DS411slim to another Synology DiskStation or any rsync server via an encrypted transmission, or to an external hard drive via USB or eSATA connection. In addition, backing up to the cloud using Amazon® S3 service is also supported.
Your Own Entertainment CenterDownload Station functions as a 24x7 BitTorrent, FTP, HTTP, eMule, and NZB download center without a PC. The eMule download engine allows search-n-download capability with a web-browser without installing additional desktop applications.
Audio Station supports music, Internet radio stations, and iPod playback with the optional speakers. An optional direction-free Synology Remote allows you to freely enjoy your music. Streaming mode allows your music to be shared with multiple users over the Intranet or Internet.
DLNA/UPnP Compliant Media Sever allows you to stream multimedia files with an UPnP Digital Media Adapter (DMA) to a stereo system or a TV-set. Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox360 are also supported.

Over de levering via Mobile-Harddisk ben ik zeer tevreden, snel compleet en goed verpakt verzonden. De DS 411 Slim is een prima klein en handzaam apparaatje, kan gemakkelijk worden opgeborgen. Inderdaad erg stil in het gebruik. De geleverde software werkt soepel, voelt erg natuurlijk aan. De gehele installatie van het netwerk was in een avondje gefikst.
Ik had de (gratis) inbouwservice erbij gevraagd, dit scheelde me in het installeren en is aan te bevelen. Dit serviceaanbod haalde me over de streep t.o.v. veel andere aanbieders!

De DS411 ziet er erg mooi en klein uit, deze laat ik op m'n bureau staan ;-).
Ik ga de gegevens van de DS101j direct overzetten naar dit NASje.

In eerste instantie telkens niet op voorraad. Toen maar een mailtje gestuurd met de vraag hoe dat kwam. Bleek dat hij maar montjes-maat binnen kwam en daardoor binnen de dag was uitverkocht. Uiteideliijk op vrijdag besteld (ondanks niet op voorraad) en dinsdag afgeleverd. Kortom weer een tevreden klant!!!!

De levering was uiterst snel: sinds 10 dagen staat hij stilletjes zijn werk te doen, uitgerust met 4 * 500GB Western Digital WD5000BEVT.
Hij vervangt mijn Synology DS109e, die nog geen RAID ondersteuning bood, maar verder ook nooit problemen gaf. De DS411 Slim is opvallend veel kleiner en ook stiller.
De DS411 Slim is bij mij gebruik als back-up server en als FTP en web server tbv eigen applicaties.
Installatie en instellen was probleemloos.
