De DS411j is het 4-bay model uit de j(unior) serie van Synology. Deze NAS server bevat een 1.2 Ghz CPU en 128 MB werkgeheugen en is daarmee perfect in staat alle functies uit te voeren die van een thuis NAS server verwacht worden. Daarnaast biedt de DS411j ondersteuning voor RAID0, RAID1, RAID5, RAID6 en RAID10 waarmee gegevens extra snel of extra veilig opgeslagen kunnen worden.
Alle Synology NAS servers hebben nagenoeg dezelfde functionaliteit, dus ook de DS411j kan dienen als FTP server, Webdav server, Webserver, Mediaserver, Photo website etc.
De DS411j biedt ruimte aan 4 harde schijven. De schijven die hierboven zijn geselecteerd werken goed samen met deze NAS. Kiest u een andere schijf dan hierboven geselecteerd, kijk dan wel even op de Synology Compatibiliteitslijst om eventuele compatibiliteitsproblemen te voorkomen.

Het heet de junior versie maar voor de gemiddelde thuisgebruiker is het meer dan genoeg. Hij kan feitelijk alles wat zijn grotere broer kan, hij heeft alleen wat minder geheugen.
Ik heb hem besteld met 4x2GB "green" schijven, waardor hij geruisloos is, op wat zacht gerommel na als er op de disks wordt gewerkt. Ook de ventilatoren blijven stil.
Gebruiksvriendelijke bediening via de browser, met de optie om meerdere gebruikers te maken die toegang hebben tot verschillende diensten en directories op de NAS. Bevat een hele roedel applicaties en functies, van downloadservers via FTP tot een webserver met PHP en MySQL. Hij kan zichzelf backuppen naar netwerk, S3 of externe schijven en hij kan zichzelf uit- en aanzetten wat weer een beetje groen is.
Zoals ik gewend ben van Mobile-harddisk.nl werd ook deze bestelling lekker vlot en correct geleverd.

Deze NAS heb ik nu twee weken in gebruik als file server voor alle huisgenoten en de ervaringen zijn prima.
We zetten er data en mediabestanden op die met windows laptops en mediaspelers weer gebruikt worden via het bekabelde gigabit netwerk.
Door de centrale opslag kan backup ook gecentraliseerd worden.
Ik heb er 4 st. Hitachi 2 TB schijven in geinstalleerd in standaard RAID5 configuratie.
De setup kost wat tijd maar er waren geen problemen.
De vulling met bestanden kan daarna via het netwerk of via een USB disk aan het apparaat zelf.
Het apparaat is geruisloos, maar lezen en schrijven hoor je wel, echter niet storend.
De slaapstand 's nachts werkt ook goed, dat is goed voor het groene gevoel.
Ik ben tevreden.
Het is wel aan te bevelen om van te voren even de documentatie en het Synologyu forum te scannen over de keuzes die je moet maken bij de setup.
