Stackable Storage and iSCSI Ready

Ik heb dit apparaat aangeschaft om mijn images snel op weg te kunnen schrijven en weer snel te kunnen restoren indien nodig. Alle images die ik erheen wegschrijf en terug wil restoren, blijken corrupt te zijn zodra ze op het nas file system zijn weggeschreven. Ik ben al 4 avonden bezig geweest om uit te sluiten waaraan het nu precies zou kunnen liggen, maar ik weet 100% dat het aan de Thecus N700 ligt. Ik heb nu een Qnap gekocht, die tenminste wel zijn werk doet. Voor een volledige thread hierover, hier de link:

prima apparaat! zakelijk gebruiken wij de N8800 als iscsi opslagservers en deze draaiden al netjes, maar de n7700 doet er niet voor onder.
Deze staat thuis en dan zijn met name de power-management functies erg handig (automatisch op tijdstippen aan/uit laten zetten, standy modus voor harddisks, WOL, etc). Hier is hij bedoeld als centrale opslagserver voor de multimedia systemen in huis. Dit doet hij prima, zeker in combinatie met een volledige GB netwerk; heen stotteren bij FULLHD films!

Na een aantal startproblemen i.v.m. keuze filesystem en harddisks is het systeem stabiel.
Inmiddels de meeste opties uitgeprobeerd en als je de juiste keus maakt om b.v. Ext3 als filesystem te nemen haal je een prachtige NAS in huis. Ik heb er 7 stuks WDC WD1001FALS-0 disken inzitten maar dan moet je wel met een WD tool de timeout op 7 sec. zetten anders kan een disk uit de raid configuratie vallen.
Als je iSCSI met 2003 wilt gebruiken volstaan de standaard instellingen als je echter iSCSI met VMWare wilt gebruiken kies je voor de 512bytes iSCsi block size en vergeet ook de CRC instellingen niet !
Er is voldoende support te vinden op het internet maar lees eerst goed voor dat je al je data op de NAS zet want verkeerde keuzes kunnen fataal zijn.
Bedenk wel.... nieuwe spulletjes, nieuwe probleempjes ;-)
